Archeologische opgraving voor de aanleg van de Betuweroute goederenspoorlijn.
Opgraving van een boomstamkano, die ligt op enkele meters diepte. De boomstamkano is ongeveer 7000 jaar oud. Archeoloog bevochtigt de kano om uitdrogen te voorkomen.
De boomstamkano lag in de klei naast het duin (de donk) waarop door jagers en verzamelaars destijds een woonplaats of bivak was ingericht. Slechts één boomstamkano ter wereld is ouder: die uit het veen in Pesse (Drenthe), nu te zien op de afdeling archeologie in het Drents Museum in Assen. Deze is ongeveer 9000 jaar oud.
De boomstamkano uit Hardinxveld-Giessendam is gemaakt van een linde, die met lichte stenen bijlen en benen beitels is uitgehold. Het vaartuig heeft een aanzienlijke lengte: 5,55 m. De breedte is ongeveer 50 cm.

The dugout canoe was in the clay next to the dune (the dark) on which a residence or bivouac was then decorated by hunters and collectors. Only one dugout canoe in the world over: who now see from the peat in Pesse (Drenthe), the Department of Archaeology in the Drenthe Museum in Assen. This is about 9000 years old. The dugout canoe from Werkendam is made of lime, which axes with light stone and bone chisels is eroded. The vessel has a considerable length:. 5.55 m, the width is about 50 cm.
