Het is de derde grootste luchthaven in Spanje na Madrid en Barcelona. Tijdens de zomermaanden is het een van de drukste luchthavens in Europa, en werd gebruikt door 23,1 miljoen passagiers in 2014.
De belangrijkste terminal van de luchthaven Palma de Mallorca is ontworpen door de lokale architect Pere Nicolau Bonet en werd officieel geopend op 12 april 1997.

The main terminal of Palma de Mallorca Airport was designed by local architect Pere Nicolau Bonet and was officially opened on 12 April 1997.
